Fire Marshal's Office

Community Affairs

Recreational fires are allowed under a general permit. This means that you do not need to obtain a permit for a specific fire as long as you observe and follow all the rules for a recreational fire. Recreational fires are defined as fires for cooking, pleasure, or ceremonies and are allowed in designated areas or on private property.

Firewood, bare untreated wood (ideally with a moisture content less than 20% by weight), and charcoal briquettes are allowed. Any other material is prohibited. Please note that driftwood from the beach does not meet the criteria for firewood. The EPA advises against burning driftwood from saltwater.

Any other questions regarding burning can be found on the Outdoor Burning Page.

You may contact our Public Information Officer for any information or questions regarding Car Seats. Additionally, the Car Seats – ADD LINK page can provide additional information.
