The block of limestone will be the third artifact in the 9/11 memorial which is taking shape outside of Fire Station 64 in Federal Way. The memorial already has a 10 foot section of steel from the Twin Towers and a large stone from the crash site of flight 93 in Shanksville Pennsylvania. The memorial will be one of only a few in the state to contain items from all three sites from the 9/11 events.
The project has been built through volunteer labor and generous donations from area business and citizens. The remaining piece of the memorial is a granite wall with names of each of the 2979 people who lost their lives that day.
