BOARD OF FIRE COMMISSIONERS:
SKF&R Board of Fire Commissioners is comprised of five elected fire commissioners. Each fire commissioner is elected for six years through the King County Office of Elections.

Chair: Bill Gates |
| William Bill Gates was originally elected in November of 2001, re-elected in November of 2007 and current term expires December 31, 2013. Since 1974 Bill has served this area as Board President of the Chamber of Commerce, the King County Library Board, the Federal Way Library Board, Center Stage Theatre and the Federal Way Boys & Girls Club. He helped create the Hylebos State Park, the Aquatic Center and helped bring St. Francis Hospital here. Bill is a Federal Way Citizen of the Year recipient. |

Vice Chair: James A. Fossos |
James Fossos was originally elected in November of 1993, re-elected in November of 1999 and in November 2005, current term expires December 31, 2011. Jim was first elected to the Board of Fire Commissioners of KCFD 26 in 1993, he was re-elected in 1999 and in 2005 was elected to the current Board of Fire Commissioners of South King Fire and Rescue. Jim started his Fire service career with the Seattle Fire Department in January of 1970 as a Firefighter. Before becoming a Seattle Firefighter, Jim served proudly as a US Marine in the Vietnam War. He has an Associate Degree from Seattle Community College in Fire Command & Administration and Supervisory and Management. Jim also currently serves as Board Secretary with the Board of Directors of the Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union.
It is my honor and privilege to serve as your Fire Commissioner. South King Fire and Rescue leads the way and I am extremely proud to be a member of this high caliber Fire Department that truly serves the many needs of the community we serve. When you call we will be there. |

Mark Freitas |
| Mark Freitas was originally elected in November of 1997, re-elected in November of 2003, and re-elected again in December, 2009. Community Activist Freitas has been involved in the community as an amateur radio volunteer (KE7AYD), helping change state statutes to better protect and serve the community. Mark is actively involved in Emergency Management including CERT and NET programs. He is a former army officer, deputy sheriff, Leadership Tomorrow Graduate, Federal Way and Des Moines soccer coach, Planning Commissioner and Chamber of Commerce Board Chair. Mark is a conservative voter on money matters and is a commercial real estate broker working in Federal Way and Des Moines since 1977. |

Mark Thompson |
Mark Thompson was originally elected in November 1999, re-elected in November 2005, current term expires December 31, 2011. He became a Fire Commissioner for Federal Way Fire Department on January 1, 2000, and filled the position held by retiring Commissioner Bill Martin. His reason for running was to provide input into the system which bestows quality emergency services and to ensure that the organization attain a new Insurance Rating Classification for our community. Interaction with our public partners is of paramount concern in order to make sure the communities that South King Fire and Rescue serve have uninterrupted service during natural and manmade disasters or incidents; and that we inform our citizen customers what they can do to help themselves during disasters of all types.
Mark has been involved with the Washington State Fire Commissioners Association Board of Directors for last 7 years as the Regional Director representing Region 6, which encompasses all fire districts in King County. He is also involved with the King County Fire Commissioners Association and has been instrumental in developing and teaching a Fire Commissioner 101 classes for all newly elected or appointed fire commissioners in King and surrounding counties.
Mark attended the Bates Technical College Fire Service Training program and became a Resident Volunteer fire fighter with Fire District 32, Redondo-Mirror Lake, at the fire station on SW 312th St. and attained the rank of Captain. He also worked as a Fire Fighter and as a Lieutenant in the Seattle Fire Department Fire Alarm Center, Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley, West Seattle, SODO Industrial area, and Downtown. Mark was also assigned for a time on the Fireboats Duwamish, Alki and Chief Seattle. He was active member in the Seattle Fire Department for 25 1/2 years. Mark has also served as the Assistant Chief and Fire Chief for the Edgewood Fire Department until 1996 and was actively involved in Pierce county and Zone wide Emergency Management.
Mark has lived in the 5 Mile Lake area for the last 30 years, has been married for 34 years and is active in the Lifespring Four Square church. Mark and his wife are raising a 12 year old grandson who is active in church, baseball and golf. They all love to camp, hunt and fish when we can. |

John Rickert |
John Rickert was elected in January 2010 with previous service as a Fire Commissioner for one term from 2002 to 2007.
John presently participates in the Budget and Finance, Insurance and Healthcare, Emergency Medical, Emergency Management, and Strategic Leadership Plan Committees. He also serves on the King County Fire Commissioners Association Emergency Medical Committee.
John retired as a Captain in the Federal Way Fire Department in 2003, after 32 years of service to the citizens of Federal Way. He has been married for 41 years and has two grown sons. John enjoys fishing and outdoor activities; he currently operates a fishing guide service. |
